After successful presentations in the Havana and the Sundance Film Festivals, the Cuban movie Boleto al paraiso, by Gerardo Chijona, will be presented in Cuban cinemas across the country beginning Thursday as part of activities for the 52nd anniversary of the Cuban Institute of the Cinematographic Industry and Arts (ICAIC).
Boleto al paraiso is the first drama shot by Chijona, who was the director of Adorables mentiras and Un paraíso bajo las estrellas.
Activities for the 52nd anniversary of ICAIC will begin on March 24 at 10:00 a.m. with the inauguration of a film archive and a digitalization lab, both under the Cinematographic Heritage Restoration Project, said ICAIC vice president of the Heritage Department, Pablo Pacheco.
At 2:00 p.m., there will be the official inauguration of the ICAIC Editing Studios, as well as the opening of the Patria Cinema, formerly the Maravillas cinema located in the municipality of Cerro.
Activities will also include the presentation of the magazine Cine Cubano 179 en abril and of various DVDs on Cuban cinema, including the animated movie Elpidio Valdes, by Juan Padron; an anthology of documentaries on the life and work of Alejo Carpentier; the film El premio flaco, by Juan Carlos Cremata; the documentary Miguel Barnet, un animal de sueños; and the TV program Con dos que se quieran.
During 2011, ICAIC will present the first three chapters of the series Cuentos para una abuela, by Jose Martin Diaz, a 3D production by the ICAIC Animation Studios.
